Question 1

How does ClockMatrix keep the countdown from drifting?

Accepted Answer

Every tick samples the current clock once and subtracts it from the absolute target epoch: remaining = targetMs − Date.now(). Because the value is recomputed from scratch each frame instead of decremented, rounding and timer jitter never accumulate, so the readout stays exact even after hours of running.

Question 2

How are days, hours, minutes and seconds derived?

Accepted Answer

The remaining milliseconds are split with integer division: days = ⌊ms / 86,400,000⌋, hours = ⌊(ms mod 86,400,000) / 3,600,000⌋, minutes = ⌊(ms mod 3,600,000) / 60,000⌋ and seconds = ⌊(ms mod 60,000) / 1,000⌋. Each unit is floored so the digits roll over exactly on the boundary.

Question 3

Why do time zones matter for a countdown?

Accepted Answer

A countdown targets an absolute instant, but the date and time you pick are interpreted in your local zone. ClockMatrix stores the target as an epoch timestamp, so a link shared with someone in another zone counts down to the same moment — their local wall-clock label simply differs by their UTC offset.

Question 4

How do leap years affect a countdown?

Accepted Answer

A leap year adds one day, so it has 366 days instead of 365. The Gregorian rule is: a year is a leap year when (year mod 4 = 0 and year mod 100 ≠ 0) or year mod 400 = 0. ClockMatrix applies this rule when it computes annual targets such as December 25th or January 1st.

Question 5

Does my custom timer survive a page reload?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The title, target date and time are written to localStorage under the clockmatrix:home namespace, and the recent-timer list keeps your last six configurations. Opening a shared link with hash state restores the exact timer encoded in that URL.
